8/7: Saturday

Not much cooking today.  Spent the day at the farmer's market, swim lessons, and working in the yard.  We had the usual breakfast followed by BLTs for lunch.  BLTs are a great lunch to show how we make the basic meals healthier:

Customary BLT:
white bread
garbage bacon
grocery store tomatoes
iceburg lettuce

Our BLT:
real sourdough or sprouted grain bread
good bacon
farmers market tomatoes
CSA and homegrown leaf lettuce
homemade mayo
smashed avocado

Our BLTs with a side of sauteed summer squash

Dinner was on the grill.  We had grilled zucchini (free at the CSA this week), grilled baby eggplant (5 for a $1 at the farmers market) and some wild-caught dover sole from Trader Joe's.  The fish I just threw in a foil pack with some salt, paprika, oregano from the garden, and lemon juice.  We usually don't eat fish this much but the kids have been begging for it.  Picture to be posted later.  Blogger seems to be having trouble with my photos today.
